I was lucky enough to be onboard for some of the certification cruise. It is incredible how resourceful the team can be while at sea with a problem to debug and a dive scheduled for 8 am the next morning.
They kept a blog throughout the certification process: https://ndsf.whoi.edu/category/alvin-6500/page/6/
We're hiring engineers of various stripes: https://careers-whoi.icims.com/jobs/search?ss=1&searchCatego...
To clarify the ambiguous parse, the submersible Alvin has been upgraded so is can go deeper than it ever could before.
Other submersibles can go deeper. The bathyscaphe Trieste was the first to reach the deepest point of the sea, back in 1960.
