I'm reading "A Mathematical Theory of Communication" by C.E. Shannon and I a section title that has "Markoff processes". As I wasn't familiar with the name, I did some searching and found out that they're the same as "Markov processes".
Moreover, the Wikipedia page has 8 mentions of "Markoff" and 41 mentions of "Markov".
As the Andrey Marko(-v)/(-ff) is Russian, does the name mix-up have something to do with some switch between <v> and <ff> in Russian?

Duplicate post. Had the impression that the other one didn't go through and made a new submission. Ups
