Ask HN: Why does MacBooks still start at $999?

2 pointsby carlycueover 2 years ago
iPad and iPhone start below $999 but on the Mac side, Apple has stuck with tradition and kept the $999 entry price. What is the rationale behind this? Is it because when Apple sells a person a Mac, they no longer get any meaningful recurring revenue from that user?

That&#x27;s what a good laptop costs (also what people are willing to pay). They&#x27;re more than reasonable for the performance you get out of it.<p>I&#x27;m surprised the price hasn&#x27;t increased frankly.
