This news leaves me speechless. I can't imagine the torment felt by the arrested protesters and their families. Those fighting for their rights are unspeakably brave.
If true, (is newsweek a reliable source for Iran coverage?) this would be an immensely risky and possibly stupid move. If they will kill you for protesting what deters you from terrorism and assassination?
I hope the protesters teach the Iranian parliament some "Hard Lessons". It seems like this move will only anger the protesters further, it's not like the Iranian regime has been treating them with kid gloves so far and this is a massive step over the line. I can't imagine what those families might be thinking/feeling. In their place I feel like it'd motivate me to take a few steps beyond "protesting" if I had family/friends who had been arrested, and now sentenced, en masse, without trial, to death.
Does the parliament have the authority for this vote to be enforced? How do politics work in Iran?
edit: Found an article with more detail here, I think, if it's referencing the same event? I'm not sure, tbh https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/08/iranian-leader...
The world won't exactly rush over to stop Iran from killing it's own future, so good for these 227 old men for putting themselves first once again. If you think about this is how the entire world works, and somehow these old men can always bear the shame.
If 1 death incited this small rebellion, I don't think the Iranian parliament would survive this event should they actually start such naziesque deathcamps. What a fucking mess.
