Ask HN: Layoffs – Motivated by Fear vs. Opportunity?

5 pointsby anoojbover 2 years ago
I've noticed a trend amongst people in my circles with the recent layoffs (those directly impacted, or worried about being impacted)
Feelings of fear, uncertainty, doubt, etc are causing people to:

-Work harder (not necessarily smarter) -Make changes to their spending -Get disciplined about their career plans

I'd say I'm also changing my behavior, my self-talk has certainly changed. I'm curious if other hackers and people working on tech have felt this change in motivation and behavior?
Once the initial loss aversion instinct goes away, I'd love to re-calibrate and make a plan that's motivated by goals and opportunity rather than fear of loss. Anyone experienced this line of thinking and made it out the other side better off?
