He says that piracy is rampant in the pornography industry but that taxpayer's money should not go towards protecting their IP. He even goes so far as to call pornographic websites illegitimate businesses.
All of this is presented as self evident; there is no need to explain why tax payers money must go towards protecting the IP of the movie industry and not of pornographers.
Just another ridiculous thing to add to the mess that is SOPA.
Luckily, another senator points out that this would pretty much mean that we are allowing some kinds of IP to be rampantly posted and not others, and regardless of personal objections to the material, this is not ok. Unfortunately, all these people are working off of the basic (wrong) assumption that SOPA will actually stop piracy.
I watched this live so I'll recap that part quickly:
One rep asked that the lyrics of that song be entered into the record, without actually reading of them, while commenting that congress is immune from copyright claims and that he's more afraid of copyright laws than pornography laws.
He then proposes an amendment that states the government should be directed not to aid pornography producers in protecting their copyrights under SOPA, so that resources can be used to protect other copyrights. Presumably those of the industries that paid for SOPA to be written and introduced.
