Alexa, how did Amazon’s voice assistant rack up a $10B loss?

Any chance that this is an accounting game to create losses that offset profits elsewhere? Like Hollywood productions that make everyone very well paid but lose money officially.

Surely it's meant to gather data, not make profit _directly_?
