Thinking about taking your computer to the repair shop? Be afraid

Every repair requires "all access". The vast majority of customers to repair shops do not have the knowledge to describe their problems accurately, and something as simple as "its slow" could turn out to be malware or a hardware issue.
I'd like to know the shops, too. Backing up personal data has been an open and opt-out policy of almost every shop I've worked at. If the 'simple' problem turns out to be a failing hard drive, customers are not often tech-aware enough to understand that you did not personally break anything, especially if they lose years of family photos.
