Ask HN: Experienced engineers, are you passively open to new opportunities?

2 pointsby blizkreegover 2 years ago
You're an experienced engineer. Do you keep your eyes and ears open to new opportunities even when not actively looking for a job?
For the purpose of the question, I'd define experienced as mid-level+ (5 years in) and senior folks.

I think Yes. I know many engineers who are passively open to opportunities.
This is because most of them are happy at their work but if someone with better opportunity or opportunity aligning with their career path reaches out to them, they consider it.
We have hired a senior engineer by this strategy only and it works.

Sure. Thing is, it’d have to be an exceptional opportunity. I work for a non-profit and have an extremely flexible schedule with decent benefits. For something to pull me away, the money would need to be beyond good.

Yes. 50% TC bump without big change to WLB is generally a yes from me.
