A friend from the Philippines just happened to have a grandfather with a spanish surname leftover from the spanish occupation. Voila. The friend checked the "hispanic american" box. Checking the "asian" box would almost certainly been less successful.
All this is good to read about but is there talk about maybe starting to teach our kids that there are a million paths to success besides the Ivy League? I don’t see any of these families doing that.<p>I have already started telling my kids they should go to a state school and save a ton of money. Like both my wife and I. And we are doing just fine.<p>Is everyone so wrapped up running the rat race to notice that?<p>Part of the problem is attaching too much value to these schools.
Can a business do the same discrimination while hiring but only for black applicants.<p>Systematically reject them and if a lawsuit comes over , just say that you were rejected on the basis of “personal rating” — a subjective score for traits like self-confidence, likability and kindness wherein you scored less than candidates of other races ?<p>Won’t this make a total mockery of the affirmative action clause.
