I have a lot of items in self-storage. Currently I use a barcode app (Duck Pack & Track). It allows you to assign a barcode to a box of items and assign a list of items in the box with pictures. It's little clumsy.
It would be nice to have an app where you can:
- assign a a barcode to individual items with photos, item description, location
- search items by description, tag, groupings, location
- have a recognition of item by taking a photo, generate a generic description based on the photo
- easily submit unwanted items to sites like ebay or facebook marketplace for free or for sale
- should be able to have tags, search by tags, browse pictures
- should be self contained, Duck Pack & Track uses drop box to store some data
- generate and print barcodes/qrcode on the standard sticker sheets
Great idea.
A relative of mine has a passion for helping people ("hoarders") declutter their houses in which they hoard tons of unneeded things.
I thought "If only I could create a phone app which makes it very quick and easy to upload items in bulk to Ebay, based on a set of 5 photos + a title + a description."
I never ended up creating it. But I recall researching "ebay bulk upload tools" and found a few tools. Plus I think ebay has a REST API.
The same could be done with Amazon since they allow sales of used items.
Just another idea for ya :D
Very good idea.
Be aware that almost all items have their barcodes from the fabric. If you use original barcodes, they can be easily tracked by users on ebay and used to compare with other items (good idea).
