I know Calculus so Strogatz's Infinite Powers created no interest in me. On the other hand What is Mathematics by Courant and Robbins was a delightful read.
Similarly I have only read a part of Road to Reality by Penrose and it was also fascinating.
Which popular non-fiction books in your subject domain did you like and dislike?
It's pointless reading about stuff you already know. Unless you want to do it for sheer enjoyment, which is quite unlikely.
Of course, you may want to discover a few snippets that you don't know about yet. But those little snippets are few and far between.
I studied Physics and I hate every single "popular" Physics books. Thankfully I come across Physics through Math otherwise I would have never studied it. The real think is so much more interesting than the "popular" one.
(contrarian)
Nothin. I don't want to spend time on my job/career/expertise in my free time. I do have some books on it (visual effects), but they're gathering dust.
