For those that don't want to read all the back and forth, it appears that the newest version of Open Lens has removed the pod log viewing and exec capabilities.
But Lens, the proprietary app that is built on the open lens code base, still has those features. The company (Mirantis) appears to be saying that is because Lens is still based on an older version of Open Lens.
There is a plugin system for open lens and Mirantis seems to have made the decision to extricate those two core features into plugins, which really seem like such core features that it doesn't make sense that they be plugins. They also seem to be saying that they will be maintaining the features as proprietary plugins and if any other distributions want those features, they will need to create and maintain their own plugins as well.

lens, the k8s app, becomes partly closed source making it more or less unusable
