This is why i never did the "startup thing" properly. It's for insiders or it's a lottery. Outsiders may think they know what they are doing, but in the end of the day, they are just randomly poking and sometimes it hits big.<p>If you make stats on how many got to those schools through legacy admission, or how many of them were born in the Valley, or how many of them are white males, all of it will show one thing: you got to be an insider and be born into it. I know a lot of rich people from "mere" millionaires to at least one centimillionaire. Many of them did many different, loosely related or unrelated things, of which several worked out, so they are not gamblers. But none of those were a real "startup", that is, something online on the Internet for the real people/businesses to use, whoever tried that, everyone failed and never got a slightest idea about what went wrong, apparently it was a mistake to try.
