The purported proof of the four color theorem has been retracted

This is how arXiv is supposed to work and is why it's useful. The proof was doomed because it hinged on some assumptions of map colorings made by the authors which could not be taken for granted as true ,at that rest of the paper hinged on being true. The series stuff was unnecessary.
