Ask HN: Non-CS Software Engineers, how did you land your SE role at FAANG?

1 pointsby jueteng_lordover 2 years ago
I am a self-taught Software Enginner who majored in Bio and have 10 years of experience programming and developing apps. I consider myself more of a builder than an actual computer scientist. I want to apply to the big 5 but feel inadequate to do so. How do I prepare myself? What resources/material do you recommend?

Literally just leetcode. Frankly, it’s amazing how little software engineers invest in this.
You can find people on Fiverr who will tutor you on competitive programming for $20 an hour.
Hire them for 3-4 hours a week and do it for 6 months. That would be a ~$1000 expense and most people see at least a 30-40k bump in yearly salary when they go from nonfaang to fb/google.
