Ask HN: Has ChatGPT made anyone else excited about IT again?

2 pointsby mvacover 2 years ago
Before ChatGPT/Midjourney I was really disillusioned with our field - new JS frameworks every month, Crypto/Web3 craze, another CI/CD tool... everything just felt unexciting and I really thought we as a field were scraping the bottom of the barrel. All the really disruptive innovations had already happened in IT and these were all just incremental improvements. That other fields (biotech, medicine...) would have their moment.
But the progress in AI has really taken me by surprise - in a good way. After years of incremental progress, a big breakthrough has come and the world will never be the same. Just like when the atomic bomb was invented or when the eternal September never came to an end.
Now there are so many exciting new projects and applications that wouldn't be possible a year or months ago. And even the mundane things (looking at you, JS frameworks) somehow feel interesting again.
Does anyone else feel the same?
