Tell HN: Spotify's iOS app struggles with downloaded content

1 pointsby sbdamanover 2 years ago
I know this has been an issue for years but it's remarkable to me that it hasn't been solved yet.
Video here: https://imgur.com/a/T2shvb8
On Spotify's iOS app, if you have any cell service connection at all (even if its so weak that you have no internet/data connection), Spotify will try to load the live version of downloaded content (playlist/album/podcast) even if you have that content pre-downloaded locally. The app doesn't even time out of trying to load the online content, it'll just fail to load indefinitely or will load once you get an internet connection.
This is super frustrating on the subway. If I have content pre-downloaded and I'm underground (with 0/1 bars and no internet service), I need to disable my cell service entirely to access the already downloaded content.
Is there any easier way to force Spotify to prefer the downloaded version if one exists, regardless of connection status?
