Hi HN,
I’m cofounder of https://www.vantage.sh/ - I previously worked at both AWS and DigitalOcean.
Cloud costs are top of mind for a lot of companies these days. If you want to save money on RDS, Elasticache, Redshift, and OpenSearch you can buy Reserved Instances. The problem is knowing how much to buy and not over committing yourself since these RIs can’t be sold (unlike EC2)
It’s always been hard to manually choose the right amount of reservations, particularly because the visualization of this data is really poor. We automate this whole process for EC2 already (both buying and selling) but now have an approval based flow for doing this for the other AWS services with accompanying graphs showing coverage for each individual category. There’s no added fee to use these recommendations and they're provided as part of the Vantage subscription.
Feel free to contact me at ben@vantage.sh if I can be helpful. You can get started by signing up here: https://console.vantage.sh/signup - would love to hear your thoughts.
