Show HN: We made a better stock options tax calculator (covers states and AMT)

8 pointsby cgoodmacover 2 years ago
We built the startup stock options tax calculator we wanted for ourselves and that we’d want our friends to use.
If you’re a startup employee, a lot of your compensation is probably in the form of stock options. They’re very confusing though and the tax bill for exercising your stock options can be shocking.
ISOs (Incentive Stock Options) in particular can trigger AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax). There are stock options tax calculators out there, but all the ones we found were out of date and/or didn’t cover state taxes, so we built a better one for internal use (we advise a lot of startup employees at places like Stripe, etc. on their options) and decided to share our calculator for free.
Try it out and find how much you'd pay in taxes if you exercised and if you'd trigger AMT - we've almost made it kind of fun (we hope)! Feedback/comments very welcome!
