They admit it is causing variants, but deny the varients are "problematic".
Then go on to state, pedantically, that their is no "evidence" that their drug has contributed to any current or previous strains in circulation.
Then, based on "available" data, (read: there is no data), do not believe it will "contribute" to future variants.
All of that word salad to acknowledge they are playing a massive game, purposefully speeding up evolution by introducing mutations, while pretending its perfectly safe because it hasn't fucked us yet.
It hasn't fucked us yet because we haven't tried this yet.
I'm done with this timeline crap. I've watched politicians drag out scandals until they lose steam, and we all watched phizer and moderna and us government use inappropriate timelines to create false narratives about safety and effectiveness.
Maybe people should wake up and start pushing back on statements made on illegitimately short timelines.
"Merck disputes the view that its drug is causing problematic variants. “There is no evidence to indicate that any antiviral agent has contributed to the emergence of circulating variants,” Merck spokesman Robert Josephson said in an email in response to questions about the study. “Based on available data we do not believe that Lagevrio (molnupiravir) is likely to contribute to the development of new meaningful coronavirus variants.”"
