So it's 2012, and I'm sure we've all had some great successes and failures on our startups in 2011.<p>I propose we create a thread to brainstorm some marketing ideas to get the word out on our startups and online businesses before the end of the world.<p>I'm not a leech, so here are some ideas I've used to promote my startup, http://www.photowhoa.com - which is a daily deals site for photographers.<p>Posted in Facebook/Linkedin groups - Found relevant groups and posted some guerilla marketing links to my business.<p>Facebook Ads - Surprisingly it was not as effective as we would have liked. It takes some time and patience to make a lot of different ads. But buying ads from FB wasn’t as effective as...<p>Reddit Ads - Worked extremely well and was way more cost-effective than Facebook ads. We targeted a subreddit and bought ads for a month for something like 500 bucks. Not bad at all.<p>PS - For us, Google ads weren’t effective at all. But for some other niches, I bet they would be.<p>Contacted Bloggers - We spent days on end (and we’re still doing it now) contacting bloggers to see if they’d be interested in covering us in a blog post (or even a Twitter/Facebook post). It was effective because through these contacts we...<p>Ended up on CNET - Luck was involved, but it took hard work to get it there.
