Ask HN: Why can't I comment on old HN threads?

1 pointsby devinrhode2about 2 years ago
I've been searching for some usb-c adapter with multiple different ports.
There was an old HN post.. asking a question.. and sure, 4 years later, there's an answer, not surprising. https://plugable.com/products/tbt4-hub3c
But if you can't comment on a post... maybe google should stop surfacing it??

Old discussion forums collect spam.
Back when I was interested in "aggressive content syndication" I would analyze what competitors did to get top rankings and I'd often find that there was a newspaper in a small town in Pennsylvania that had nobody minding the store and somebody had filled up all the comments with drivel about where to buy World of Warcraft gold.

I think it is just a generic ‘no necromancy’ policy that a lot of forums have to stop people from dredging up old stuff constantly. However, if you want l to discuss that topic, maybe you could start a new thread and link the old one ?
