One point that I couldn&#x27;t find mentioned in the article is that an arc (he often calls spark) creates a negative resistance, which partially or totally counteracts the R in the RLC, giving extended ringing or even crtical&#x2F;overdamped oscillations. This was a key part of how early spark gap transmitters worked.<p>Negative reistance is more common than might be thought, if you search around you willl find a bit of info.
