Ask HN: How are companies releasing GPT-4 powered products so fast?

8 pointsby rajeshp1986about 2 years ago
I am aware of the OpenAI GPT-4 beta testing program so many companies must be using the beta APIs. I still don't understand how so many companies have announced + launched full fledged production features powered by GPT-4. Are most of these just half baked features or is everyone banking on the OpenAI hype?
[1] - https://twitter.com/amanrsanger/status/1635689751943712768 [2] - https://twitter.com/BeMyEyes/status/1635690254689599488 [3] - https://blog.duolingo.com/duolingo-max/

All of them have a partnership with OpenAI, from which they might have gotten access earlier to test & explore use-cases

The changes required to use the ChatGPT API that was released recently were very minimal.
And to use the new models is just a single line change.
So it’s very easy to switch over - if you have access.
Good example code here: https://github.com/atomic14/command_line_chatgpt

It’s been a few months now that ChatGPT was released. So I think it’s reasonable to assume in that time any small team could have developed features with the assumption those APIs would become available at a later date.

We are also getting fascinated by this process. Maybe just a gimmick?
