Ask HN: Startup Domicile in 2023?

5 pointsby tjstebbingabout 2 years ago
I'm an Aussie, and looking to launch a new startup in the next month. 12 months ago I would have opened a Delaware but the global economy is techtonically shifting with the rise of the Yuan, and overinflated USD. I think I need to seriously consider if anything attached strongly to the US or China is a wise move right now. Nationalistic hats-off if possible, where are the best places to domicile a new startup in the current climate?

Choosing the appropriate jurisdiction for incorporating a startup is not primarily influenced by the strength or weakness of the national currency.
Instead, it depends on factors such as the simplicity of conducting business operations with minimal bureaucratic hurdles, as well as easy access to external investors.

I think you should be looking at the stable and predictable location, where the legal system works and is independent. In EU, Netherlands is a popular location to domicile a business, but if you already established your startup in the US, I guess you made a good choice.

Are you an Aussie for tax purposes?
If so, I'd personally default to Australia and worry about the rest after having some success.
If not, I'd go Delaware.
