&gt; The role of the CTO is to balance several different business objectives<p>Sounds to me like he&#x27;s still given too many responsibilities to the CTO, which is fine for a small company but won&#x27;t scale either.<p>First two are for VP of Product, third is VP of Eng and the fourth is the one that CTO should really focus on<p>In a bigger company, CTO wouldn&#x27;t write requirements even. They would be focused on vision and roadmap and work with others to do research and make the requirements concrete.

C-level execs should steer companies not write platitudes and opinions as blogposts...<p>A CTO coding for their company is much more aligned with it than one doing a &quot;content for startup founders and tech leaders&quot; substack business on the side.
