This is pretty wildly self indulgent. Substack doesn’t empower writers. Publishing to your own domain does that. Owning your customer list does that. Not renting storage space in substacks database and forking over a disproportionately large chunk of your revenue in exchange.
Regarding substack notes, I’m skeptical it will succeed. I haven’t seen any short form social media other than Twitter succeed and I think that because Twitter was such an innovation and such a mistery. No one new what it was or how to use it, but it was fun. I can’t see a conversation happening in substack notes. Or anything going viral there. Am I missing something?
