Creativity, authenticity, 'being yourself', weirdness...these things that are held up as virtues, or things to aspire too, or desirable, are all beset by major survivorship bias. We only see the examples of weird or authetic people who have good ideas or are successful and immortalized by pop culture--people like Nicola Tesla or Andy Warhol--not the weirdoes who fell through the cracks...were too weird for public's tastes or just plain wrong (flat earthers come to mind). The unimaginative approach to life works best, maybe because that is what gives most consistent results for most people.
