Most podcasts are published via RSS feed, it's a really open and naturally federated model. The podcast apps all pretty much work the same, check the RSS feed for new episodes and let you download or stream them.
I just cant with podcasts, all the ones with ads just ruin the vibe, especially on Spotify when you are already paying for premium to get rid of ads...
