At an early presentation Elon M inserted himself in the space race by observing people in the industry feared making any mistake therefore stagnation. The West has declined from the U.S. landing people on the moon many times over to Japan failing with a robot. The reinvigorated space race having China the near fast pacing threat needs stretch goals for industry. Spare Raptor rocket engines can power two state of the art probes to catch up to and shoot past the Voyager 1 & 2 probes within set time. Southern Korea couldn't clone a Starship or Starship AI if their existence depended on Samsung.

They have no chance, until will have their own cheap reusable rocket system.
Unfortunately, to create reusable rocket system need about 7 years (this is just standard minimal time to make new rocket system), so European officials are right, they will not have such system before 2030.

Musk buying twitter and showing off his ass-hattedness might be the greatest thing that happened to the space race since nobody trusts him anymore. Soon every country will be working on a Starship clone.

It will be expensive for this group to compete unless they can get access to SpaceX launch rockets, particularly the Starship.

> The bid, which includes large players such as Airbus Defence and Space, Eutelsat, SES, and Thales Alenia Space
> The partnership announced Tuesday, which also includes Deutsche Telekom, Hispasat, OHB, Orange, Hisdesat, and Telespazio,
> Europe estimates the cost of this constellation at about 6 billion euro
here are some nice new names that relate to the start up nation promised by politicians !
And then they say small companies make up the economic fabric of Europe.
We will never get the start ups, if they keep giving away billions to the same companies and shareholders all the time.
Why would you invent a new idea, fund a new company, try to develop something,... when you can just lands in a large company, that will never sink because they get government contracts to copy American start ups.
European neoliberalism only exists for the outsiders, when "the market" pushes wages down and shoots retail prices through the roof. But then, where you're an insider in these companies, you've got public money for life.
And btw, they say they will give 6 billion of public money to make the satellite constellation.
How much will it be by the time it's done ?
How much money will have evaporated before these companies are bailed out to save the project ?
-> who will do like Areva , another successful European company ?
Who will get the money ?
-> Will they do like European airports, highways and railways that are built with taxes, then operated by private companies ?
