Worth reading. I'm not sure what to think about the author's position. My concern is it would only increase pressure to give up immediately on borderline cases. I definitely support the idea that people should be clear about what kind of care they want. Otoh, I have seen people get better from situations where if it were me I'd want to be left to die, so it's not really an easy decision to make. Hospitals I've dealt with are so bureaucratic though, I would worry that "we need the bed" ends up trumping everything else if there's some flexibility.
