India first democracy to ban encrypted messaging apps on scale

I was surprised that Signal wasn't in the list of banned apps. But according to the article this seems to be because they banned apps that let their uses remain anonymous. We know that that according to a FBI slide that was released about a year ago, that Signals do give who talks to who and when, although they can't read their users' messages.

It would be interesting to see if they can ban email+gpg too.
