I don’t know if there has ever been this much transparency in a company. Linus is a true rock star and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Really wish I could find out when I subscribed to him. His channel has been over a 1/3 of my life.
Linus will become Chief Vision Officer, like a creative exec. No direct reports. Being CEO was exhausting and didn't match his "temperament."<p>He turned down $100m offer with substantial cash buyout. He'll still be doing lots of videos!<p>The new CEO will be his former boss, Terren Tong. They worked well together in the past.
The constant grind of YouTube hasn't seemed to stamp out Linus' enthusiasm for content creation; I still wonder whether the company can transition him to fewer videos per week eventually so he can get back a little more work/life balance.<p>This may be the first step down that balanced path, as there's no healthy way someone could put out that much content per week (even if here were just the talking head, and didn't have input into the process—which he does), host a multi-hour weekly podcast, and run a company with 100+ employees.
