Not because I want Facebook on Mastodon - but because it will be a prime example of the network effect at work. Small-time instances that want to keep Instagram users off their feed can (and probably will) completely defederate with Facebook's service. Larger hosts will face internal pressure to support them, but it relies on Facebook moderating their content and being a good citizen.<p>Simply put, it's been a long time since we've seen FAANG make an honest attempt to work alongside an existing community like this. Protocol states that we have to give them a seat at the table, but Facebook will need more than that to be taken seriously. It will be <i>fascinating</i> to watch larger apps adopt ActivityPub, even if you hate Facebook, Mastodon or both.
