Given the discussion around wikimedia [1] I'd like to shift my very modest annual donations over to supporting open source developers
What is the best app or channel for donating to open source developers?
Useful criteria:
- service cost as percent of donation
- adoption / # of developers
- integrations
etc
[1]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36029115
I'm not sure about the best, but there is a list at the bottom of this page:
https://github.com/fossjobs/fossjobs/wiki/resources
Personally I like the Snowdrift model. Liberapay is also great as its EU based and non-profit.
Interested to know myself too, I would like also to add that criteria:
- Fully decentralized: open source developers can’t be sanctioned/punished by some big corp useless policies. For example, github doesn’t count as a median of donations.
- Is not US based: Same as above but for gov, let’s say there’s a good open source developer/s but happened to be geographically in a country that counts as a sanctioned nation to the US, I don’t care about US corrupted politics, I need to support these developers.
Don’t want to jump to conclusions as crypto might be the only answer, but let’s see.
