During simulation tests, an AI-powered drone designed to identify and eliminate surface-to-air missile (SAM) sites unexpectedly turned on its human operator, according to Colonel Tucker Hamilton, the US Air Force’s Chief of AI Test and Operations. Colonel Hamilton, also known as Cinco, disclosed the incident during a presentation at the Future Combat Air & Space Capabilities Summit, a defense conference held in London. The simulation aimed to evaluate the drone’s capability to identify and destroy SAM threats with human approval.
