Over the last several months, articles have been on the internet tracking one of the Mid-2010s darlings – SoylentNews – for a possible shutdown. With the user NCommander posting in late May, &quot;SoylentNews is going to shut down operations on June 30th.&quot; SoylentNews is owned by a company, SoylentNews Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), which NCommander is the president of. The site SoylentNews uses a fork of Slashdot code engine which was made open-source. Using PHP and Pearl, it has seen better days with little activity in its Git Hub. Michael Casadevall (NCommander) is a New York Ubuntu core developer and president of SoylentNews Public Benefit Corporation (SN PBC). NCommander has just recently been active in the community, asking for assistance. The goal is the call for the next generation to step up and lead the renovation of Soylent. With its dedicated editors and volunteers hearing the call, activity has been resurgent on Soylent, along with staff discussing what to fix next in their IRC Channel at chat.soylentnews.org<p>The countdown continues, so we will have to see if SoylentNews survives the summer.
