Tablets may not have replaced TVs but tablets altered the trajectory for TV and TV watching hugely. I do not believe TV manufacturers expected to be solely the agents of large displays, They thought 3D was going to be a licence to print money.<p>I bet TV makers really did not enjoy learning that even android TV was by now really just another view of somebody else's revenue stream and just costs for them: keep up with the pace of CVE and upgrade or .. they just use their tablet.
AR won't happen in the mainstream. Not with this tech. I see only investor influencers and nerdy "I can now have a virtual girlfriend" fellas excited about this. The same crowd that was getting psychotic over Web3's potential like a year ago.

They got this far by doing things Apple doesn't, like developing first-party experiences and focusing on the low-end market. They are intentionally running in the other direction, and have already drummed up a market 20 million strong without so much as an announcement from Apple.<p>If their first gen headset outsells the first gen Quest, it would be like the Lisa outselling the Apple II.
