The state of threading on FreeBSD was so poor that, would you believe it, for a time, FreeBSD was using a port of LinuxThreads (the pre-NPTL posix-like threading library written by Xavier Leroy of OCaml fame, integrated into glibc).<p>I think that may have still been true in 2005.
