Ask HN: Why is Edge Dev browser contacting api.msn.com?

3 pointsby tangwwweialmost 2 years ago
i'm using the Edge Dev browser on windows and i've noticed that whenever i open a new tab and type something into the address bar and press enter, the first thing i will see is "Waiting for api.msn.com...". this still happens irregardless of the default search engine i use, i have switched between ddg, bing and you.com and the same behaviour is also observed.
i just learnt to use wireshark to capture network traffic and tried several ways to filter for api.msn.com and its related dns address and domain name (a-0003.a-msedge.net [204.79.197.203]) and i could not find anything. i also tried filtering for the ports which Edge contacted during the time frame when it was loading the page. maybe im not using the filtering options in wireshark correctly?
maybe someone has a good idea about why there is this behaviour going on? i could not find any mention of this skimming through search results
