Ask HN: Do you employ any strategy to remain productive and consistent?

9 pointsby noob_engalmost 2 years ago
Do you plan to be productive in every aspect of your life? Not only work but all aspects like family, love, work, play, etc.
What is your mantra or system to achieve that?

I guess I have a few "strategies"...
I have a regular sleep and wake time that remains roughly the same daily, and I practice good sleep hygiene. I cannot stress enough how good it is for your brain once you get it into a solid healthy sleep routine.
I also have a lot of long-term goals that revolve around achieving long-term happiness (which, as someone with ADHD, has been hard to achieve this kind of mindset because I generally crave excitement and fun today at the expense of anything to do with the future - I've had to mentally train myself to ask myself in any given moment "how will I feel about this decision in 48 hours?"). I also wrote my goals onto paper and put them in a place I see them every day to remind myself because otherwise, I generally only think about the present moment, so having long-term goals and reminding myself of them regularly serves as motivation to get things done and reduces my tendency to procrastinate.
I also embrace the third space theory, irrespective of whether there is evidence for or against it. I like to operate my life in silos. I keep my work, family, and social life separate from each other, which I find incredibly liberating.
Finally, I no longer use mainstream social media for anything, and I generally prefer to acquire knowledge about how the world works through my academic pursuits to think critically about the information-obsessed world we live in.
