I'm a new doctor of optometry graduate trying to figure out my next career move. I love binocular vision and technology so I feel like I would enjoy work in research and development for VR. My question is, do companies such as Apple or Meta need people who specialize in eyes? I would likely need to have additional research training to be qualified, which I'm guessing would take another two years, and even then, I'm not sure if they would need eye specialists at that time. I'd appreciate if anyone has input!
ARVR will not work without vision science help. I have worked in AR/VR optical system design for FAANG for 8+ yrs. We are spending a huge amount of money to push the limits of physics. Having people that understand how much we actually need to push is invaluable. I work extensively with people from multiple vision labs. The work is definitely specialized, but it’s also needed
