Ask HN: Does the VR industry need eye specialists?

3 pointsby yukistaralmost 2 years ago
I'm a new doctor of optometry graduate trying to figure out my next career move. I love binocular vision and technology so I feel like I would enjoy work in research and development for VR. My question is, do companies such as Apple or Meta need people who specialize in eyes? I would likely need to have additional research training to be qualified, which I'm guessing would take another two years, and even then, I'm not sure if they would need eye specialists at that time. I'd appreciate if anyone has input!
