Pay them or form partnerships with companies to either assign part-time or full-time developers to them, or pay contributors.<p>Open source is attractive in major part to companies because it’s externally vettable and you typically get a stronger ecosystem of enthusiasts working on your software by using it. Open source projects that has consistent enthusiast development has some leverage to negotiate deals with consuming companies to keep that ecosystem strong.
