I think we should go further- we need public baths. Anyone could access them, get a break from the heat or cold, get cleaned up, rest, just feel like a human for a while. Bathers could be segregated based on perceived gender identity so that people can get cleaned up and refreshed and not feel ogled. I think this would go really far towards a goal that is needed of improving civility.<p>One past argument against public baths is it could turn into a hookup destination. and the argument conservatives in the 2020s would make is it might, god forbid, tolerats trans people. We have to get past our prudish past and get real about human behavior so we can focus on improving public health- so we can cure diseases, make stronger, healthier communities, rebuild public bonds and common identity so we can start solving the very real, existential threats that are literally at our door right now.
