interspecific is one of those words which doesn't "look" like it means. Specificity and Species relate of course. I think inter-species might have been more comprehensible but sure, the hyphenated word isn't strictly necessary.<p>Octopuses are self aware. I have little doubt they know what they're doing in higher senses and very possibly know "more" than the other species they cooperate with.
