Ask HN: Is AI Hype Over?

3 pointsby fandorinalmost 2 years ago
In Q4 2022 and Q1 2023 there was not a single day on HN without multiple posts about AI. Now it’s pretty quiet.
From your point of view - is the hype over?

No, far from it, it is just starting. But it's vacation season. Brace yourself for AI-September. It won't be eternal, but will last at least a good year or two.

I think we’re at the point where everyone who cares understands the potential and limitations of LLMs.
For small companies, the people who see legitimate business use for it are hunkering down to build products around the use case. At large companies they’re hunkering down too, but are more prone to building ridiculous things providing marginal value to end-users that won’t last a year or 2, to capitalize on whatever hype is left over

It has definitely quieted down. But I don't think it's over.
I think the next wave will be startups/companies coming out with very polished products using existing LLMs. At the same time, I think OpenAI and other companies will continue to come out with better models.
We might see another AI hype boom in a few months in my opinion.
