They don't talk about quality. Ultimately it's extremely hard to create a quality show or movie. 90%+ of what these services produce is not worth watching. It's ok but do you really want to spend your time watching it? It's too hard to sort out the gems. Large quantities of stuff is not a plus in anyone's life.
Streaming has broken the movie business model. What used to be a regular night out experience or a looking forward experience has turned into a lonely one person commonly sad experience.
I started having an inkling that streaming services were about to turn to garbage when 1) Netflix was churning out shows, series, and documentaries at a fast rate, and 2) comedians and society starting joking that every major news item of the day was about to be turned into a Netflix movie/show/series.
There’s nothing good on cable anymore. My cousins kids have no idea what a commercial is on TV. I was with them on vacation, turned on the TV to something they would watch and commercial came on. They didn’t know what was happening.
Streaming services are meh now. If there’s something I want to see, I’m accessing it via the old methods of the early 2000s.
I moved on about a year ago. I don’t miss it.
When it started it was a value and quality play, now it’s neither.
Ditching cable was a chore and when I did it almost 20 year ago people thought I was insane. Streaming was easy to drop.
Now I buy what I want digitally and since I’m buying individually I feel each purchase.
Turns out you don’t need 10000 hours of “content” for an such a small time window.
> Netflix’s recent crackdown on password sharing — which it says resulted in more new signups than cancellations
I wonder how misleading this is, I know that I downgraded my plan to add the second location since we only have Netflix for the kids, so they may have "more subscribers" but that isn't the same as more income.
They are all getting more expensive and all losing quality content. It is becoming increasingly hard to find a specific show I want to watch. Sometimes it’s on Netflix, other times Hulu. Sometimes something I want to watch isn’t even being streamed. It’s just massively confusing.
