I stopped playing when NYT required a signup. I've never played since.
These days I spend a lot of time playing untangle[1], usually at 100 or more points. It has nothing to do with word guessing.
[1] https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/js/unta...
My wife and I together do Wordle, Waffle, Xordle and my own take on Octordle every day. We are retired and in our 70s. My wife is getting better at it and I am getting worse.
Xordle daily is favourite for both of us - solve two words at once. Use https://xordle.org/
There's a Discord group I frequent that has a competitive 6-letter Wordle variant bot where you are all working on the same one at the same time, but you get one guess every 15 minutes and get points for getting new yellow or green letters revealed. And if no one solves it in an hour it resets with a new one. There's also a leaderboard for who has the most points.
I find that one pretty addicting, in trying to make the best guesses or solve it out from under the other people playing. Since you only get one guess every 15 minutes, you have to make it count.
That being said, I haven't played it as much recently, but I usually place a guess whenever I visit their chat.
