This comes off as written by a guy that saw himself in that movie and wasn’t happy. He proceeds to invent a bunch of shit to be mad about and misses the point entirely. One of the, sadly, many trash reviews of the movie to add to the pile. Just watch it and make up your own mind instead of listening to these closet incels.
"Girl power, this is not. Barbie reads like textbook Adorno: late capitalism is savvy enough to incorporate its own critiques to inoculate itself from any pushback."<p>Interesting takes overall; a "hacking/unpacking" of the film that I'll keep in mind when I eventually borrow it from the library for Movie Night.<p>I'll keep reading bell hooks and Octavia Butler and Alison Bechdel (Fun Home was great- as a man without great father figures, the best and most healthily masculine being Mr. Rogers, I realize as I play those albums for my daughter, I felt some solidarity) and also Romance novels for my ongoing education about how to be a better human being (and of course entertainment, too). If I could travel back in time to give my teenage self some books, Parable of the Sower would be one.
